Review of Gearbox Pro Ultimate Power (GPUP)

On paper, and respecting the comments of great reviewers (e.g., Kew), the GPUP wouldn’t seem a preferred choice for most players; indeed, the Gearbox GX2 was reported by others as a major improvement. So I compared them and also the Gearbox Pro Ultimate Hyper over 3 sessions (total of 4.5 hrs.). I preferred the Gearbox GPUP easily over the other 2 (and also over the Joola Perseus Pro IV and Joola Agassi) for these reasons:

(1) It feels top-heavy to hold, but as soon as you swing it, it feels great and I’ve not found it awkward at the net, and find dinks/drops/angles easier;

(2) Perhaps because I’m 60+ yo and accept my loss of some muscle 😊, the power of this paddle actually seems to help compensate—I’ve been able to swing and get great pop easier, and with more control;

(3) I like the thinner paddles (14mm), and I also value this being an approved “quiet paddle,” because I simply like that effort, and we’ll see if it’s perhaps easier to play with in other more noise-restricted areas;

(4) The grip is small, but like that can then overgrip it to whatever feels best, and with specific “tackiness” overgrip that works best in different settings.

Truly no complaints after using for several weeks now (about 15 hrs total), and not experiencing any significant break-in changes I’d read about.
